I having trouble opening PDFs in Google Chrome

Hello friends
I used to receive the following error message when attempting to open a PDF file in Google Chrome:
"The adobe acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Please exit adobe acrobat/reader and exit your web browser and try again."
However, as of today (for some reason), I no longer receive the message. But now, when I try to open a PDF in Chrome, nothing happens -- the browser window just turns black and nothing new opens up. Does anyone have a fix for this year? I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro installed on my computer and I'm using Chrome Version 3.0 on Windows VISTA. Thanks!
